Having Liposuction is an excellent way to remove stubborn and unwanted fat to achieve the slimming results you’ve always desired. However, Liposuction results won’t stay permanent without additional efforts. Here are six ways to stay slim, firm, and maintain your results after Liposuction.

Don’t Expect Dramatic Weight Loss

One of the most commonly asked questions we hear during a Liposuction consultation is “how much weight will I lose?” Although some weight loss will occur once the fat has been removed from the body, the surgery is not specifically designed for weight loss. Liposuction is meant to improve the contour or the shape of the body, and to reduce localized excesses of fat. While weight loss isn’t one of the key benefits, the change in shape or contour of the specific treatment area can be very significant.

Drink Plenty of Water

Increasing the amount of water you drink can help you lose weight in addition to keeping your weight stable after Liposuction. Hinsdale Vein & Laser recommends that patients drink about 64 ounces of water per day to lose weight and to maintain treatment results. Choosing to drink water rather than other calorie-filled drinks will help to keep your body hydrated while maintaining your new shape.

Follow a Regular Exercise Regimen

Many patients who have Liposuction choose to do so because they have already experienced significant weight loss, but they still have unwanted pockets of stubborn fat. This type of patient already realizes the significance of utilizing exercise as a way of losing weight and keeping it off.

Aerobic Exercise

Most surgeons will recommend gentle movement within 48 hours following Liposuction. For the first three weeks after the procedure, strenuous types of exercise, including aerobics and running, should be avoided. Once the three-week waiting period has passed, your strength will need to be gradually regained to maintain your liposuction results, and aerobic exercise is encouraged.

Resistant Exercise

During the first three weeks after Liposuction, most surgeons will recommend that their patients begin resistance training. Once the treatment area has regained functionality, you may begin exercising, starting slowly and gradually increasing your amount of effort. Resistance exercises include short workouts with a rubber band or small hand weights.

Increase Your General Activity Level

In addition to incorporating aerobic and resistance exercise into your life, Liposuction patients should also increase their general level of activity to keep the body in an active and good overall physical condition. A sedentary lifestyle may cause the skin to sag in areas that were treated. An increase in general activity levels will help to keep your Liposuction results looking great.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Liposuction can smooth out the budging areas of your body, and making healthy diet choices will keep stubborn bulges from returning. The best way to prevent excess fat is to eat a healthy diet that is low in fat, sugar, and processed foods. For a healthy diet, choose low-fat, lean foods full of protein, vegetables, fruits, and low-fat meat with visible fat removed. Incorporating plenty of fiber into your diet will help to make your liposuction results easy to maintain.

Reduce Stress

Stress is one of the leading causes of weight gain because stress raises levels of cortisol in a person’s system. Some studies even suggest that raised levels of cortisol reduce the number of calories burned by the body. Some of the most useful ways to keep stress from affecting your daily life are:

  • Have a consistent, predictable daily routine
  • Stay positive
  • Explore your spiritual side
  • Take time each day to meditate with breathing exercises
  • Make a habit of taking a soaking bath or sitting in a hot tub
  • Be grateful for the good things in your life

Are You a Good Liposuction Candidate?

Liposuction is an excellent treatment option for patients who are at their ideal weight or within 30% of their ideal weight while still having disproportionate localized deposits of fat. When diet and exercise are not enough to reduce stubborn fat, Liposuction may be the right treatment option for you. Schedule your Liposuction consultation appointment with Hinsdale Vein & Laser today.
