With the use of a state-of-the-art laser and the newest foam sclerotherapy, you can finally say goodbye to your stubborn spider veins. We encourage you to learn more about these revolutionary procedures so you can feel and look like the real you and show off your beautiful legs.
Spider veins are the most superficial layer of veins that are highly visible underneath the skin. Typically, an individual spider vein has a hidden vein that it feeds from, which is producing high pressure, making visible veins larger and uncomfortable. To eliminate spider veins, we must first block the feeder vein’s path.
Some of the most common causes of spider veins include:
Dr. Alkadri uses Excel V to target and eliminate unsightly veins on your face or body. This technology uses two precision lasers and treats different types of visible vessels, from small spider veins to veins that appear blue and reticular. Excel V is very fast, safe, and effective.
The Excel V system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface.
Some patients require one to two sessions, but this number varies based on your condition. During your consultation, Dr. Alkadri will examine your areas of concern and give you a treatment plan and package.
Treatments are generally set at 15 minute intervals. We will schedule you for treatments every 3-4 weeks according to your treatment plan.
Treatments can feel similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin but is very tolerable. We can give you a topical anesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable if you are interested. Following your treatment, pain is minimal to non-existent.
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
Redness and/or swelling is the most common side effect following the treatment. This should subside in a few days. Very rarely, a patient will experience bruising or blisters. You should be able to return to normal activities immediately, being careful to avoid sunlight and wearing sunscreen regularly to protect the treated area. Any other activities to avoid will be discussed after your treatment.
The treated veins will not return, but over time different spider veins may appear. These can be touched up by the Excel V as well.
You may also wish to consider sclerotherapy treatment. Instead of using a laser, Dr. Alkadri provides injections that close off the feeder veins, as well as small varicose veins that are currently visible.
Individual patients may experience varying results with either therapy, so let us help you decide which treatment is best for you by calling (630) 734-3493.
Sclerotherapy works by injecting a solution into the vein with a very fine needle, causing irritation and closure. The body then breaks down the damaged vein and absorbs it.
There is no pre-treatment preparation or anesthetics involved. Sclerotherapy injections are associated with minimal discomfort during the short treatment. Several treatments may be needed over the course of your treatment plan, depending on the condition of your veins.
You may return to normal activities with a few exceptions. We ask that you avoid prolonged sitting and standing for three days. Also, heavy exercise (weight lifting, running and high impact aerobics) should be avoided for two weeks. Walking is encouraged after the treatments and prescription-gradient compression hose are worn for 9 days after each treatment.
